Former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson entered Sunday on the verge of locking down the Democratic nomination to face U.S. Sen. Susan Collins as the final eight counties caucus to pick the last of the delegates officially deciding the nod.
Democrats in Aroostook, Knox, Oxford, Piscataquis, Sagadahoc, Somerset, Waldo and York counties vote today, choosing the remaining 181 of the 500 delegates elected at the county level. Jackson dominated Saturday’s caucuses, winning at least 290 of the 319 delegates awarded.
Those elected today will finalize the slate of electors who will join the party’s 101-member state committee at a July 25 state convention in Bangor to officially pick the nominee.
Reporters are at caucus sites statewide today. The Bangor Daily News is monitoring the caucuses with partners from the Midcoast Villager and Lincoln County News.
