A Belfast man allegedly broke into a girl’s bedroom with a gun Tuesday morning before fleeing into the woods.
Thatcher Jackson, 24, has been charged with assault, aggravated criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, aggravated criminal trespass, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and violation of a protection from abuse order, according to Belfast Police Chief Robert Cormier.
Jackson allegedly broke into a Chickadee Circle home through a bedroom window and the homeowners found him in their daughter’s bedroom.
He allegedly made several threats with a gun to the family and told them he wouldn’t surrender to police.
Jackson fled out a window into the woods off Swan Lake Avenue, Cormier said Tuesday evening.
Police issued a shelter-in-place order for the neighborhood while police searched the woods for Jackson, who was taken into custody about 12:45 p.m. on Patterson Hill Road.
Jackson, who also was wanted on several felony warrants, was taken to the Waldo County Jail, where he was being held without bail ahead of his arraignment Wednesday at Waldo County Superior Court.
The investigation is ongoing.
