BANGOR — Following an extensive search, Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center is happy to announce that Melissa McHugh Short, MBA, MN, RN, NEA-BC, has been appointed vice president of operations.
With more than two decades of healthcare leadership experience, including more than 13 years in senior leadership roles, McHugh Short brings a solid track record of strategic vision, operational excellence, and a commitment to high-quality patient care to this role. Her expertise spans acute care, ambulatory, service lines, ancillary/support service operations, clinical nursing leadership, as well as overall organizational performance improvement.
Most recently, McHugh Short served as senior regional director of Patient Care Services and Advanced Urgent Care for Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic States. Prior to that, she held various senior level operational and clinical roles with Meritus Health in Hagerstown, Maryland and Swedish Health Services in Seattle, Washington.
McHugh Short holds an MBA and a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Washington and is currently pursuing a doctor of nursing practice in executive leadership at Baylor University.
In her role as VP of operations at Eastern Maine Medical Center, McHugh Short will oversee daily operations of the Medical Center, including support and ancillary services as well as assigned clinical programs.

McHugh Short officially assumed the role of vice president at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in July.
