Brewer Deputy Mayor Bill Kimball has resigned from the City Council.
Kimball, who resigned on July 29, said he did so because he couldn’t commit as much time to the council as he wanted to.
“I am a business owner and father of five children and I wasn’t able to manage my time as efficiently as I felt Brewer deserved and feel that someone else could step in and fill the role,” he said.
Kimball owns Bill’s Heat Pumps, a heat pump business based in Greater Bangor.
The opening leaves four members on the Brewer City Council. The council will vote to accept the resignation and declare the seat vacant at its next meeting on Aug. 11. It then has two options when it comes to filling the seat, as it can either call for a special election or wait for the next municipal election in November to put the seat on the ballot.
It is likely the council will put the position on the November ballot because of how soon it is and because nomination papers will be available in September, City Manager Eric Glidden said.
The seat will be for the remainder of Kimball’s term, which runs until November 2027. The November ballot will also include a three-year seat held by councilor and state representative Dani O’Halloran.
Although his schedule and the time demands for being a councilor do not currently work, Kimball said he is “not ruling out running again in the future.”
