A dump truck crashed into a concrete culvert in New Sharon on Monday morning when its driver passed a tractor-trailer.
Alfred Gubb, 53, of Mexico was driving a 2025 Mack CV712 dump truck south on Mile Hill Road about 9:27 a.m. when he passed a tractor-trailer ahead of a sharp turn in the road, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
Gubb took the corner too fast and drifted onto the soft shoulder. But in overcorrecting, Gubb crossed the centerline, crashed through a guardrail and careened into the stream below, where he hit a concrete box culvert, the sheriff’s office said.
After first responders freed Gubb from the wreckage, he was taken to MaineHealth Franklin Hospital in Farmington, where he was treated for his injuries. The sheriff’s office didn’t indicate the severity of his injuries.
The crash caused significant damage to the culvert.
