A child allegedly started a fire at an Oakland home while seven people slept inside.
The child, whose age and identity weren’t released, has been charged with arson, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
The blaze began inside a child’s second-floor bedroom at the Libby Hill Road home about 1 a.m. on July 16.
Smoke alarms roused the two adults and five children who were asleep at the time, and they escaped the flames without injury.
Firefighters contained the blaze to the bedroom and the second-floor hallway, which was significantly damaged.
The child, who was arrested Tuesday, was taken to Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland, Moss said Wednesday morning.
