Bangor International Airport will temporarily close its runway in September to make repairs to the pavement.
The runway will be closed from 8 a.m. Sept. 21 through 3 p.m. Sept. 24. The airport is encouraging passengers with travel plans during that period to contact their airline for the latest flight information and any schedule changes. Helicopter operations will continue as normal during the closure.
Airport staff discovered during a routine inspectio that an area of the runway required permanent repairs related to alkali-silica reaction, which can cause cracking and structural issues.
“Addressing the issue now will preserve the long-term integrity of the runway, reduce the need for future temporary repairs and help ensure the continued safe and efficient operation of the airport,” the airport said in a statement.
