Maine regulators have approved York Hospital’s plan to join MaineHealth, the health care organizations announced Monday afternoon.
The transaction is expected to close on Oct. 1, and in the coming weeks, leaders from MaineHealth will work with York Hospital to support the transition process.
York Hospital announced in the fall that it planned to merge with MaineHealth because of multiple challenges, including the increasing cost of labor, supplies and technology, as well as difficulties with getting reimbursed by payers.
The partnership is aimed at “preserving local access to high-quality care while expanding resources and services for the York community,” the organizations said.
