A fire was set inside a room at a Waterville assisted living facility’s campus early Thursday morning.

The fire was set inside a resident’s room in Park Residences, independent living apartments at Woodlands Memory Care Unit’s campus on West River Road, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The sprinkler system activated, limiting damage from the fire to a laundry basket and comforter, Moss said.

Everyone was evacuated from the facility, and no one was injured.

The investigation is ongoing, but the case has been referred to the district attorney’s office.

Correction: An earlier version of this report misstated where the fire broke out. Police later said that it happened in independent living apartments on the Woodlands campus.
