Lincoln’s town office has reopened after a cyberattack.
The town office opened to the public at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, albeit with limited services, according to a public notice from Lincoln’s government.
Town officials can register vehicles, issue hunting and fishing licenses, take tax payments and look up information for some properties.
That comes after Lincoln’s IT provider alerted the town Saturday that parts of its network had been encrypted. The infected parts of the system were isolated to prevent further spread.
The cyberattack prompted the town office’s closure Monday to allow Lincoln to slowly bring its system back online to limit any potential reinfection.
The recovery process is ongoing, the town said Monday evening.
“At this stage of the investigation, the Town is still determining what data, if any, may have been affected. If the investigation determines that information requiring notification was accessed or acquired without authorization, the Town will take the appropriate steps to notify and assist affected individuals,” Town Manager Wade Shaefer said Tuesday morning.
