BANGOR — Northern Light Health is pleased to welcome Michael Rahl, MD, DPT, an experienced orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle surgery, and Brendan Smith, MD, MS, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult hip and knee reconstruction, to its practice at Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Dr. Rahl brings a wealth of expertise and a unique background to Northern Light Health. He recently completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Western Michigan University – Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine, where he served as chief resident. He is currently pursuing a Fellowship in Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

A graduate of the University of Connecticut, Dr. Rahl earned his doctor of physical therapy and bachelor of science in biological sciences from UConn before obtaining his doctor of medicine from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Prior to medical school, he worked as a board-certified orthopedic physical therapist, gaining extensive hands-on experience in musculoskeletal care, post-surgical rehabilitation and strength and conditioning.

Dr. Rahl is board-eligible with the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, as well as a member of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Brendan Smith, MD, MS, brings outstanding credentials and a strong passion for orthopedic excellence to Northern Light Health. Board eligible in orthopedic surgery, he recently completed an Adult Reconstruction (hip and knee) Fellowship at Florida Orthopaedic Institute. Prior to that, he served as an orthopedic surgery Resident at St. Luke’s University Health Network in Pennsylvania.

A dedicated researcher and clinician, Dr. Smith earned his MD from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and an MS in Biomedical Sciences from Rutgers Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

Both Dr. Rahl and Dr. Smith are now accepting new patients.
