ROCKLAND, Maine — Former Regional School Unit 13 Board member Doug Curtis Jr. has taken out papers for the single school board seat up for election in November.
Curtis, a resident of Summer Street, took out nomination papers Tuesday.
Curtis has served one three-year term on the board, being elected in 2018. He did not seek reelection in 2021. He served as district governor for Rotary and is a financial planner.
He ran for one of two seats in 2025 but fell short to Jessie Davis and Lydia Short.
Thus far, Irene Flynn of Maverick Street is the only other candidate to have taken out papers for the seat.
Flynn works for Evergreen Home Performance as a Rockland-based energy adviser. She spoke at the RSU 13 board’s Aug. 5 meeting and voiced concern about exposing prekindergarten and kindergarten to digital technology.
The seat up for election to represent Rockland on the 10-member board is held by Kali Ausplund who said she would not seek reelection.
Three people have taken out papers for the two City Council seats up for election. Incumbent Kaitlin Callahan of Willow Street, Daniel Flynn of Maverick Street and David Pierson of the Samoset Road have taken out papers.
Incumbent Nate Davis is not seeking reelection.
There is also one port district seat up for election. That seat is held by Noah Barnes. The seat is for five years.
Nomination papers must be turned in to the city clerk’s office by Sept. 3 to get on the Nov. 3 ballot. City Council and school board candidates need to collect the signatures of at least 100 registered Rockland voters to qualify for the ballot.
