Two of three races for seats on the Belfast City Council this fall will see longtime officials challenged for reelection.
Three two-year seats on the five-member council, which is divided with a ward system, and one three-year term on the RSU 71 school board are up for reelection this year.
Nomination papers were due to the city Thursday evening.
Mary Mortier has represented the city’s southern portion in Ward 1 since 2012, and is seeking reelection against Caitlin Hills.
In adjoining Ward 2, incumbent Neal Harkness, who has held his seat since first winning it 12 years ago, will run against Zachary Schmesser.
Ward 5, spanning East Belfast, had been represented by Paul Dean since 2018; he did not return nomination papers. Kathleen Dunckel is the only candidate for his seat.
Samantha Gehin-Scott and Anthony Gilmore are competing for the seat representing the city on the RSU 71 public school district board that is currently held by Sherri Klosterman, who is not running again.
Voting will be held Nov. 3 at the Tarratine Hall on Main Street.
