Contrary to the Sept. 7 BDN article, the U.S. Senate race is not about just voting against Susan Collins. It’s about the content of character.
At first, I liked Troy Jackson’s policies but he just didn’t seem like Washington, D.C. material to me. I have changed my mind. It is true he is not especially articulate. Neither is Susan Collins. But I believe he is genuine. I have a hard time finding authenticity in Susan Collins. Her comments feel calculated. I believe she poses as bipartisan, which should offend loyal Trump supporters. One of her big take aways from Jan. 6th was she shouldn’t have worn high heels. Really?
Of the many things I am learning about Jackson’s character, two stand out. I read an article in which Charlotte Warren, a former Democratic state representative from Hallowell, said “Troy and I are bare knuckle brawlers. We believe in what we believe in, and we’re going to fight for it.” That is in sharp contrast to Susan Collins’ consistently beige “I am concerned.”
I went to Jackson’s Gorham town hall. A woman stood up and said “I love this man.” She explained she had worked with him. She had seen how hard he works — he stays above and beyond the normal working hours in the Legislature just as he says he did in the Maine woods.
If I had to choose between Susan Collins’ perfect voting record and proof someone works hard, stays late and fights for what he believes, I’d choose the latter. We need Troy Jackson’s hard-working “bare knuckle brawler” to stand for the people in Maine.
