An Alabama man, who allegedly threatened to detonate a bomb at Bangor International Airport last year pleaded guilty Friday in U.S. District Court in Bangor.
Robert Tyler Wicks, 25, is charged with engaging in a hoax to detonate a bomb at an airport.
Wicks allegedly made the threats via texts to American Airline employees and calls to the Bangor airport’s switchboard on Feb. 13 and 14, 2025.
According to the court documents cited by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Wicks was in a relationship with an American Airlines employee and used the relationship to obtain contact information for other employees of the airline.
He allegedly used a mobile app to make calls from his phone using a different number.
When investigators interviewed him, he admitted to making the threats, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
Wicks faces up to five years in prison, a maximum fine of $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release.
