The body of a Blue Hill man who went missing on Sept. 20 and was believed to have drowned was recovered Tuesday.
James Kannry, 82, was believed to have fallen into the water from his boat. Kannry, of Blue Hill and Virginia, was found dead Tuesday after a 911 caller reported a body in the ocean near Blue Hill, roughly 5 miles by water from where he is suspected of having fallen in, according to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.
A multi-agency search in the days following the initial missing person report was unsuccessful, authorities said.
Maine Marine Patrol searched the area by boat, remotely operated underwater vehicle and aircraft. The Maine Warden Service deployed a K-9 team to comb through the area surrounding Kannry’s residence and the state’s dive team led dives into the ocean.
Kannry worked in the investment management business for more than 30 years, according to the Blue Hill Heritage Trust. He had a master of business administration in finance from New York University and served on the boards of several local nonprofits, including Northern Light Blue Hill Memorial Hospital and SPCA.
He was a scuba diver, photographer and instrument-rated private pilot, according to the trust.
