In November, voters in Maine’s Senate District 8 will have a choice. Nevertheless, I believe one candidate is not working to earn our votes. I think Leo Kenney would deliver only the status quo if elected and offers only vague platitudes without specific plans to help the people of Maine. In my mind, he doesn’t compare to his opponent, working-class champion Mike Tipping.
The Kenney campaign website lists four issues as being part of Leo’s approach. These are energy costs, fixing education and healthcare, and lowering taxes. The website does not explain how Kenney plans to address these issues. Maybe he has undisclosed solutions to our problems, or maybe he is afraid of alienating the progressive voters in Orono by revealing what he really does believe.
Contrast this with his opponent, Sen. Mike Tipping, who in his first term was named among the most effective state senators by the Center of Effective Lawmaking and has a long history of advancing bills that help Mainers, including by supporting legislation to block the acquisition of hospitals by private equity (LD 2201) and supporting universal free school lunches.
Mike is working hard to fix the status quo that doesn’t work for average Mainers. I think Leo will give us more of the same and put more money in the pockets of the wealthy.
I don’t see evidence that Leo Kenney believes he has to earn your vote or that we should know our representatives’ policies. I believe we must vote for Mike Tipping so that he can continue fighting for Mainers.
