Another superload will begin crawling toward the Maine coast Wednesday evening.
That follows the successful delivery to South Portland of a nearly 684,000-pound piece of machinery from the old Androscoggin Mill in Jay.
The next load will depart from Jay for Turner beginning at 6 p.m., the Maine State Police said Tuesday afternoon. Once in Turner, it will wait until Thursday evening before continuing to Oxford, where it will remain until Sunday night.
On Sunday night, it will depart from Oxford to Gray. Then on Monday night, it will travel to Buxton, where it will stay until Tuesday night, when it will crawl the final leg to South Portland.
The state police warned drivers to expect rolling delays as the convoy makes it way along the route.
The first load was originally expected to reach South Portland on Sept. 29 after a two-night journey. But after departing from Riley Road in Jay, it failed to reach a key bridge in time. It then began making a more painstakingly slow journey, traveling from Turner to South Portland over several nights.
This is the second of night super oversize loads expected to travel this route in the coming weeks.
