A Glenburn man allegedly broke windows at a Bangor business and threw apples as passing cars Wednesday night.

Ryan Sawyer, 38, has been charged with aggravated criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, terrorizing and violating his conditions of release, according to Katy England, a spokesperson for the Bangor Police Department.

Sawyer was allegedly throwing cars passing him on Clinton Street about 7:40 p.m. Police warned him to stop his behavior, but less than an hour later, Sawyer allegedly was breaking windows at a Hammond Street business and walking down the road and screaming.

The business owner had asked him to leave when he began asking patrons if he could use their phones, England said Thursday morning.

He allegedly then began hitting windows and yelling vulgarities at the business owner.

Sawyer was arrested later that night and taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Thursday morning, according to the jail’s website.

That was not the first encounter this week between Bangor police and Sawyer, who was driven to Bangor on Monday after a “brief interaction with another law enforcement agency,” England said.

On Tuesday night, Sawyer was allegedly behaving aggressively toward people and taking off his clothes at a hospital, where he was issued a no-trespass notice. But he allegedly returned and prevented ambulances from using the hospital’s emergency entrance.

That prompted police to charge him with obstructing a public way and violating his conditions of release.
