A former Scarborough police officer has pleaded not guilty in an alleged overtime fraud scheme.

Timothy Barker, 55, entered his plea on charges of theft by deception, tampering with public records or information, and official oppression Thursday morning, according to CBS affiliate WGME.

Prosecutors allege that Barker conspired to submit fraudulent time records for traffic details he didn’t work from March 5 to Sept. 19, 2025, the TV station reported.

He allegedly tried to collect as much as $10,000 in overtime from Scarborough.

Scarborough police informed the Maine attorney general’s office in December of the alleged theft, and Barker retired as a lieutenant on Feb. 2 after 31 years with the department.

Barker will next appear in court in March.
