A fire destroyed a New Gloucester store early Sunday morning.
A passerby spotted heavy smoke coming from Link’s Variety Store on Lewiston Road about 2:07 a.m., according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Firefighters quickly tamed the flames, but the store and its contents were extensively damaged and are considered a total loss.
Investigators believe the fire started near the furnace, where boxes had been placed.
No one was injured.
