The website for Hannaford supermarkets displayed an “unavailable” message on Tuesday afternoon, following an announcement by the regional supermarket chain’s parent company of a cybersecurity incident.
Ahold Delhaize, the Netherlands-based multinational holding company that owns Hannaford, announced on Monday that it is “experiencing a security issue within its network.”
“Our teams are taking steps to assess and mitigate the issue,” the company said. “This includes taking some systems offline to help protect them. At this time, our stores are open and serving customers.”
Hannaford.com on Tuesday displayed a message stating that stores remain open during business hours, and the company is working to restore online service
“Any unfulfilled orders placed through Hannaford.com or the Hannaford app will be refunded,” the message said.
In the U.S., Ahold Delhaize also owns Food Lion, Stop & Shop and Giant Foods. Websites for each of these brands displayed similar “unavailable” messages on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, the company said it has no evidence that customer or employee data had been stolen.
That update comes the same day that major European grocers reported cyberattacks that caused refrigeration systems to overheat at hundreds of stores in France, according to the Associated Press.
