The cause of Wednesday’s deadly blaze in Bangor is still unknown.
The fire broke out at the two-unit apartment building at the intersection of Cedar and Second streets at 6:36 a.m., according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
It took two minutes for firefighters to arrive on scene, because it’s near the Bangor Fire Department’s Central Station on Main Street.
Three people were outside the building when firefighters arrived, but one person was unable to escape the flames. Two of those people were taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation. They were treated and released.
The building was substantially damaged in the blaze.
Moss said that investigators have not yet determined what caused the fire, but the investigation is ongoing.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending an examination by the Maine medical examiner’s office.
