The website for Hannaford supermarkets was working on Tuesday, a week after the regional grocery chain’s parent company reported a cybersecurity incident.
Ahold Delhaize, the Netherlands-based multinational holding company that owns Hannaford, announced on Oct. 12 that it was “experiencing a security issue within its network” and had “taken some systems offline to help protect them.”
Websites for Ahold Delhaize’s U.S. supermarkets, including Hannaford, Food Lion, Stop & Shop and Giant Foods, displayed “unavailable” messages, though the stores remained open as normal.
The cybersecurity incident at Ahold Delhaize unfolded at the same time that major European grocers reported cyberattacks that caused refrigeration systems to overheat at hundreds of stores in France.
But a Hannaford spokesperson told the Portland Press Herald the “suspicious activity” detected by its parent company was unrelated to the other attacks in Europe.
In an update Monday, Ahold Delhaize said it has “no evidence at this moment that suggests that any sensitive customer, associate or partner data was taken.”
Based in Scarborough, Hannaford has 68 stores in Maine, another 68 across Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont, and 52 in New York.
