Maine State Police released a photo on Tuesday believed to show a pickup truck that was involved in a hit-and-run incident last week on Interstate 95 that injured a road worker.

The incident happened on the morning of Oct. 14 in a single-lane construction zone in Pittsfield.

A silver pickup truck hauling a black dump trailer hit a concrete Jersey barrier. The truck then hit an orange construction barrel on the right side of the road that was knocked into 56-year-old Richard Smart of Westfield, who was working for Northeast Construction unloading Jersey barriers.

Smart was taken to Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital with serious injuries and has since been released, police said.

The male driver of the pickup continued north without stopping, according to police, who said witnesses reported seeing him turn around inside the truck as the crash occurred then speed away.

State police are asking anyone who recognizes the truck in the photograph or has information about the driver to call the Bangor Regional Communications Center at 207-973-3700, extension 9, and ask for Trooper Klayton Peckham.
