A man was struck and killed by an Amtrak train at Old Orchard Beach Thursday afternoon.

According to Old Orchard Beach Police, the 51-year-old was found off the roadway near 133 Temple Ave. When officials arrived at the scene at around 2:18 p.m., he had died.

An initial investigation shows that the man had likely been walking near the Amtrak railroad tracks before being struck by the train. Officials believe that the man may have been drinking before he was struck by the train.

He was an Old Orchard Beach resident, but his name is being withheld so his family can be notified of his death.

An investigation is ongoing.
