Bangor is poised to shatter an 85-year-old heat record Thursday.
The mercury is forecast to climb to at least 96 degrees Fahrenheit in the Queen City, surpassing the record 93 degrees for July 2 set back in 1941, according to the National Weather Service’s Caribou station.
It’s going to feel even hotter, thanks to the humidity. The combination of the heat and humidity means it will feel more like 104 degrees in Bangor.
Frenchville and Houlton in Aroostook County also are expected to break heat records Thursday. In Frenchville, temperatures are expected to top out at 89 degrees, exceeding the record of 88 degrees for July 2 set in 2022. Meanwhile, Houlton’s forecasted high of 94 degrees would surpass the record for this date of 93 degrees, set back in 2014.
Caribou is expected to fall just shy of breaking its record high of 93 degrees, set in 2014. Millinocket’s high of 94 degrees would tie its heat record for July 2, set in 2014.
Thursday will mark the worst of the heat for inland Maine, while the coast will see the worst of it Friday, when the combination of heat and humidity will make it feel like the triple digits on Mount Desert Island.
