In the Aug. 8-9 edition of the Bangor Daily News, retired University of Maine professor Ronald Davis asked people to speak out against the Trump Administration’s withdrawal of research funds from universities and the proposed rule allowing his appointees to reject research grants on political grounds. Davis urged people to vote to replace retrogressive politicians with more thoughtful ones.
In this process, I believe President Donald Trump continues to demonstrate why the 14th Amendment disqualifies from office anyone who has violated an oath to uphold the Constitution.
I urge Sen. Susan Collins, as chair of the Appropriations Committee, to add the following to each of her committee’s bills:
“No funds appropriated by this act may be obligated for or by the director of the Office of Management and Budget, the OMB Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, or the deputy chief of staff until the following criteria are met:
1) The process and substance of President Joe Biden’s Jan. 27, 2021 Memorandum for the Heads of Executive Departments and Agencies: Restoring Trust in Government Through Scientific Integrity and Evidence-Based Policymaking are restored and operating;
2) Any appropriated funds withdrawn from grants for scientific research and the conservation of natural resources, and election assistance to the states are restored; and
3) The question of whether Donald Trump is disqualified from office by Section 3 of the 14th Amendment for his role in advancing, supporting, lending aid and comfort to, and/or pardoning the insurrectionists of Jan. 6, 2021, is fully adjudicated in the U.S. District and Circuit Courts for the District of Columbia.”
