Perhaps the most important decision for the Bangor City Council each year is to pass a budget outlining how taxpayer funds will be spent.
This is a difficult task, especially as many residents worry about rising property taxes and whether they can afford to live in Bangor. Councilors must balance those interests with funding the city’s public services.
The Bangor Daily News asked each of this year’s council candidates the following question: As the cost of living continues to climb, many residents are concerned about how they’ll afford rising property taxes, especially retired seniors. What is your outlook on the city’s spending, and which parts of the city’s budget would you like to adjust?
