BANGOR – Rozel C. Libby, 87, wife of the late Ralph W. Libby, died Aug. 18, 2008, at a local hospital, after a brief illness. She was born June 27, 1921, in Brewer, daughter of James H. and Isabel C. (Miller) Dougherty. Rozel had been employed in the dining hall at Husson College and was a volunteer for many years at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Rozel was an avid vegetable and flower gardener. Family was the focus of her life and she will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Surviving are one son, David T. Libby and his wife, Rebecca, of Brewer; two grandchildren, Heidi (Libby) Lancaster and her husband, Michael and their son, Peter Michael Lancaster, all of Hermon, and Christopher Libby and his wife, Christanna, of Orono; a sister-in-law, Lillian Wormell of Bangor; brother-in-law, Donald M. Libby of Vero Beach, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Ralph, she was predeceased by three sisters, Elizabeth, Tat, and Alice; and one brother, Henry. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, with the Rev. Marguerite A.H. Steadman, rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments immediately after the funeral Friday at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
