SURRY and SOUTH CHINA Eleanor M. Wood, 90, died Aug. 30, 2008, at an Augusta hospital. She was born April 2, 1918, in Blue Hill, the daughter of Ernest Eugene and Luella May (Robertson) Nevells. She was a resident of the Blue Hill and Surry areas until the last 10 years, when she made her home in South China. Eleanor enjoyed doing handiwork, such as knitting, sewing and cooking. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Blue Hill. She is survived by sons, Virgil E. Wood and wife, Renee, of East Millinocket and Edwin H. Wood and wife, Nancy, of Old Lyme, Conn.; daughter, Elaine E. Wardwell and husband, John, of South China; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hattie Piper of Blue Hill. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Everett W. “Darby” Wood; three brothers and one sister. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. Interment will be at Village Cemetery, Surry.
