ABBOT – Elsie G. Good-ridge, 85, died Aug. 31, 2008, after a three-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born Aug. 13, 1923, in Willimantic, daughter of John and Helen (Smith) Leavitt. Elsie worked for 20 years at Hardwood Products Co., and for the next 20 years, as a certified nurses’ aide, retiring at the age of 75. She enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, crocheting and reading. She especially enjoyed all the family and friends visiting her during the last few years. She is survived by five children, Clarice Foss of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Reginald Sandberg and his wife, Janet, of Washington state, Kathy Babski and her husband, John, of Sangerville, Sam Goodridge and his wife, Donna and Cindy Fortier and her husband, Ross, all of Abbot; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Jane Erickson of Monson, Marylyn Gordon of Maryland, Pauline Myers of Connecticut and Thelma King of Guilford; and a brother, Richard Leavitt of Pennsylvania. Elsie was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Samuel Goodridge Jr. in 2003; her first husband, Ernest Sandberg; two brothers, Gordon Leavitt and Robert Leavitt; and two sisters, Marjorie Hatch and Beatrice Storer. Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Blanchard Cemetery, Abbot, with Pastor Ray Beless officiating.
