WEST ENFIELD – Harold Martin Harper Sr., 64, died peacefully in his sleep, Aug. 30, 2008, with his beloved wife, Dianne, by his side at Penobscot Valley Hospital. Harold was born Feb. 3, 1944, in Bangor, the son of Earl and Louise Harper. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force September 1961, where he earned his GED. Harold attended two years of college and served as airman third class at U.S. Air Force Base, Amarillo, Texas, as a military police officer. After receiving an honorable discharge July 1965, he moved back to Maine and began a 40-year truck-driving career. He met his wife, to whom he was married 40 years. He was a charter member of Brewer Eagles Club and a member of Howland American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, “wheelin’ and dealin’” and spending time with family. He is survived by his wife, Dianne Harper of West Enfield; children, Michael Harper and his wife, Joyce, of Jacksonville, Texas, Harold Harper Jr. and his fiancee, Jayne, of West Enfield, Bobbie Jo (Harper) Awalt and husband, Barry, of Lincoln and Corey Harper and his wife, Lea, of Argyle; siblings, A. Henry Harper Sr., George Harper Sr., Elizabeth Ireland, Larry Harper Sr., Kenneth Harper Sr. and Joan Pelkey; grandchildren, Brandon, Cody, Chase, Cade, Alexis, Cole and Owen; stepgrandchildren, Stephanie, Channing and Kyle; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Sam McKinnon. He was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Louise; and a brother, Donald. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Howland Cemetery.
