MADAWASKA – John Tardif, 87, passed away Aug. 29, 2008, at a Madawaska health care facility. He was born Aug. 24, 1921, in St. Agatha, the son of Luke and Catherine (Martin) Tardif. John was a master sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and fought in Guadalcanal during World War II. He was a 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 2638 of Madawaska and also a member of Thomas O. Cyr Legion Post No. 147 of Madawaska. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Lucienne (Lachance) Tardif of Madawaska; three daughters, Paula Sorensen and her husband, David, Renee Drake and her husband, James, all of Oklahoma and Patrice Tardif of Montreal; four sons, John Tardif Jr. and his wife, Angie, of Florida, Donald Tardif and his wife, Rhonda, of New Brunswick, Ronald Tardif and Michael Tardif and his wife, Sandy, all of Madawaska; two sisters, Constance Koutalidis of Madawaska and Roberta Kerwin and her husband, James, of California; two brothers, Valere Tardif and his wife, Helen, of California and Lloyd Tardif and his wife, Ruth, of Madawaska; 10 grandchildren, Craig, Mikka, Dodie, Cassie, Genevieve, Brandon, Caleb, George, Roma and Amanda; 15 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Madawaska. Interment will be at the parish cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Daigle Funeral Home.
