GRACE VIVIAN MERRILL DOVER-FOXCROFT – Grace Vivian Merrill died Sept. 6, 2008, at Hibbard Nursing Home, Dover-Foxcroft, with her daughter, Wilma at her side. Vivian was born Aug. 29, 1912, in Portland, to David L. G. Scott and Mary (Otis) Scott. She was a graduate of Portland High School and graduated from Gorham Normal School, Class of 1933. Vivian taught in a one-room school in Sweden, and also in Center Lovell and Lovell village schools. After marriage to Carlton, she was a substitute teacher in East Corinth and Lovell. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lovell; a member of Lovell Congregational Church; past member of Lovell Library Club and Ladies Aid of Lovell. Vivian Scott married Carlton W. Merrill in 1938, and lived in Lovell, East Corinth and Fryeburg for most of her 96 years. In later years, lived in Milo and Medford with daughter, Wilma and her husband, Bryan Buchanan. Mrs. Merrill was predeceased by her husband, Carlton; and siblings, Alice Ryder, F. Adelaide Thompson and Otis Scott. She is survived by a son, David C. Merrill and his wife, Sandra, of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; daughters, Helen Burnham and Russell of Clermont, Fla., and Wilma Buchanan and husband, Bryan, of Medford. Vivian is also survived by eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, several nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held at No. 4 Cemetery, Lovell. Arrangements are made with Wood Funeral Home, Fryeburg.
