VEAZIE and MONSON – Helen V. Johnson, 87, beloved wife of the late Sherwood R. Johnson, died Sept. 18, 2008, at a Brewer nursing home, after a long illness. She was born May 27, 1921, in Monson, the daughter of Nestor and Soffia (Kurkinen) Sivula. She graduated from Monson Academy, Class of 1939. She was a school bus driver and proprietor of Kavaliva Finnish Coffee House, Monson, for many years, where she was well-known for her good cooking and Finnish bullah bread. Helen moved to Veazie in 1986 and lived at Veazie Villas, where she had many close friends, including Gloria and Galen Salisbury, Betty and Clark Crane, Louise Smith and a very special friend, Anne Hosmer and her husband, Jim. She was a member of Monson Community Church and Veazie Congregational Church. She is survived by two nieces, Carol Schiller of Bangor and Betty Ivey of Connecticut; her lifetime friend and sister-in-law, Erma Marini; and many cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Hilkka Sivula. A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, with the Rev. Daryl Witmer officiating.
