MACHIAS – Maureen K. Roberts, 72, passed away peacefully Sept. 17, 2008, at a Bangor nursing home. She was born May 13, 1936, in Marlborough, Mass., the daughter of James F. and Millicent (Bryant) Farley. She grew up in Jacksonville, raised by her grandparents, James and Myrtle Bryant. After graduating from Washington Academy in 1954, Maureen spent many years working as a waitress at various restaurants in the area, most notably, Helen’s Restaurant. She spent many summers camping with her husband, Vic and friends, attending Shrine events. In more recent years, she enjoyed walking with her dog, Scamp and visiting residents at the local nursing home. She is survived by her four children, Vicki Kilton and husband, James, of Roque Bluffs, Rick Frye and wife, Barbara, of Bangor, Lisa Frye and partner Kathy, of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and Barb Yentsch of Winter Park, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Christy Kilton and partner, Nate Alley, Adam Kilton and wife, Kellie, Seth Kilton, Brianna Woodworth and husband, Jonathan, Eric Frye and partner, Kallie, Zachary, MacKenzie, Taylor and Paige Gross; four great-grandchildren, Kole, Hailey, Kisten and Tyler; brother, Julian Kilton; sister, Deborah Springer and husband, Bob; uncle, Basil Day; and cousins, Joyce Goodine and husband, Tommy, Carolyn Swadley and husband, Steve, Larry Bryant and wife, Brenda, J. Verrill and wife, Sally, James Verrill, and Tim Verrill and wife, Wendy. In addition to her parents and grandparents, she was predeceased by husband, Victor Roberts; stepfather, Clarence Kilton; sister, Jean Roche; son-in-law, Mike Yentsch; uncle, Vaughn Bryant and wife, Adelaide; and aunts, Barbara Day, Beryle Bryant and Lurene Verrill. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at Jacksonville Cemetery. After the service, there will be a gathering of family and friends in Machias. The family thanks the staff at Westgate Manor for their compassionate care of Maureen during her stay.
