LYMAN – Ada M. Herring passed away peacefully Aug. 23, 2007, surrounded by her loving family at her home. She was born Sept. 16, 1916, in Dover-South Mills, one of 10 children born to Charles and Bertha (Stevens) Doore. She attended the local school house through ninth grade and then went to work in the community as a housekeeper, cook, laundry aide and kitchen aide with many years of employment at Mayo Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Herring proudly earned her GED at 78 years of age, attending the adult education program at Foxcroft Academy. Growing up on a farm, she loved animals and carried that passion with her through life collecting and caring for as many as possible. She especially enjoyed her hens, birds, dogs, cats and rabbits. In her retirement years, she kept animals at her beloved camp in Sebec. Mrs. Her-ring was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, whose family always came first. Her passion for life, the outdoors, and her many friends and animals sustained her to the end. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph, whom she shared 61 years of marriage with; a daughter, Linda Jean; and grandsons, Jeremy and Brian. She is survived by her son, Ronald Herring and wife, Debra, of Wells; daughters, Carol Hughes and husband, Richard, of Sebec, Rosemary Page and husband, Doug, of Lyman, Janice Peterson and husband, Russell, of Alfred and Christine Raymond and husband, Guy, of Dover-Foxcroft; a foster son, Wayne Herring of South China; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of her life will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the VFW Hall, Park Street, Dover-Foxcroft. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to an animal shelter of your choice or to the Visiting Nurse Service of Southern Maine, 15 Industrial Park Road, Saco, ME 04072 or to Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 U.S. Route One, Scarborough, ME 04074.
