SANGERVILLE – Addie Elizabeth “Betty” French has been released from her courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease at a local nursing home Aug. 8, 2005. She was born May 7, 1923, in Dover-Foxcroft, to Beatrice Mariah (Boyington) French and Frank French. She was predeceased by brothers, Bill Boyington and Martin French; and sisters, Ona (French) Blethen, Eva (French) Sherman and Joyce (French) Croce. She is survived by the love of her life and husband of 54 years, Nathan Martin Jordan of Sangerville; her daughter, Paula Brown and her husband, Joel, of Abbot; her beloved grandsons, Jason Martin Brown and his wife, Jessica, of Dover-Foxcroft, and Adam Whitney Brown of Abbot; sisters-in-law, Ruth French of Dover-Foxcroft and Jeannette Harding of Lincoln; brother-in-law, Bill Croce of Holicong, Pa.; and several nieces. “Betty” worked in Dover-Foxcroft as a telephone operator and at the Hathaway Shirt Company. She loved the out-of-doors and all of God’s creatures. She spent many happy hours feeding and watching birds, squirrels, and chipmunks. She participated many years in the Audubon Society’s bird count. She also delighted in planting and nurturing flowers around her home. Betty was a homemaker and cook “extraordinaire” as well as a talented painter who gifted friends and family with her wonderful works of art. Above all else, Betty loved and cared for her husband and family. She nurtured them all with love, food, and laughter. Her delight in her grandsons was strong and unending. She passed on to them many lessons of love and life, and to the very end, was always there for hugs. At Betty’s own request, there will be no funeral. There will be a committal service 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, at the Pine Grove Cemetery, in Dover-Foxcroft.
