HERMON – Albert Joseph Burke, 83, beloved husband and father, passed away July 15, 2006, surrounded by his family at his home after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born Dec. 29, 1922, in Hampden, the son of Joseph and Ruby (Brown) Burke. Albert served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the Pacific Theater. He was a hard worker and retired from the B&A Railroad after 40 years of service. Albert took great pride in his home and especially enjoyed his garden and the many years of farming at his childhood home. Most of all Albert enjoyed his family. They were the most important things in his life and he will be dearly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Ada (Douglass) Burke of Hermon; children, Lorna Robbins and husband, Dale, of Hermon, Gary Burke and wife, Cindy, of Hermon, Jolette El-Hajj and husband, Lonnie, of Winterport, Jolene Mitchell of Bangor and her close friend, Patrick Fogarty, of Old Town; a sister, Etta “Babe” Porter of Bangor; a sister-in-law, Frances Burke of Newburgh; a very special uncle, Howard Brown of Clinton; grandchildren, Troy Wells and wife, Holly, of East Corinth, Nichole Gregory and husband, Kevin, of Bradford, Casey Burke of Hermon, Kaitlyn and Dakota El-Hajj of Winterport, Jeffrey Mitchell of Bangor; several great-grand-children, nieces and nephews; and by his faithful cat, Abby. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by siblings, James Burke, Frank Burke and wife, Edith and Dora and Arthur Connolly. Albert’s family thanks all the staff of New Hope Hospice, especially caregivers, Tammy and Valerie, for the wonderful care they provided. Friends are invited to visit with the family noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. with the Rev. Gertrude “Trudy” Stone, chaplain of New Hope Hospice, officiating. Interment will be immediately after at Evergreen Cemetery, Hermon. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the family home, 707 Coldbrook Rd., Hermon, after the services.
