VAN BUREN – Alda Lucienne Soucy, 93, died Feb. 6, 2008, at a Van Buren nursing home. She was born April 26, 1914, in Wallagrass, the daughter of Henry and Victoria (Martin) Saucier. She was educated in local schools and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Van Buren. Alda married Lawrence Soucy, Oct. 3, 1945. She was employed as a department store clerk for the former W.T. Grant Co., Van Buren, for many years. After her retirement, she enjoyed her home, flower gardening and family. Her love and ear for music also became her joy. In 1996, she was recognized by the St. Bruno Choir Society for being a member of the choir for more than 60 years. Alda was also a member of Evangeline Circle, Daughters of Isabella and a life member of American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 49, Van Buren. She is survived by one sister, Yvette Stewart of Van Buren; a sister-in-law, Betty Allain of Madison; nieces, Kethleen Beaulieu and husband, Robert, of Van Buren, and Cindy Martel and husband, Donald, of Auburn; great-nieces, Jill Beaulieu of Madawaska, and Tracy Barnies and son, Gage, of Lewiston; great-nephews, Jeff Beaulieu and wife, Staci, and sons, Tristen and Colin, of Milo, and Mark Stewart and companion, Nicky, and daughter, Madisyn, of Waterville; several cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Larry Soucy, in 1986; one sister, Loretta Saucier, in 1997; a brother, Alberic Saucier, in 1949; and by a godchild, Dorothy Stewart, in 2007. The family wishes to acknowledge the excellent care provided to her by the staff at Borderview, Van Buren, for the nearly 14 years she was in residence at the facility. At her request, there will be no visiting hours. A funeral Mass will be scheduled and announced at a later date.
