CARIBOU – Alex R. Rand, 83, died Oct. 17, 2006, in Van Buren, after a brief illness. He was born Sept. 1, 1923, in Presque Isle, the son of Ralph and Lucy Rand. He was employed in the farming industry by several area farmers for many years. Alex married Ellen (Butler) Rand, July 1, 1950 and they were married for 48 years. She predeceased Alex, Jan. 6, 1999. He is survived by five sons, Alex Rand Jr. and his wife, Carlene, of Franklin, N.H., Danny Rand and his wife, Judy, of Plaster Rock, New Brunswick, Canada, Tim Rand and his wife, Pat, of Caribou, Nick Rand of Massachusetts and William Rand and his wife, Brenda, of Yukon, Okla.; four daughters, Carolyn Ouellette and her husband, Fern, and Carla Haines and her husband, Wayne, all of Caribou, Joan Giles and her husband, Mark, of Columbia, S.C., and Jean McDivitt and her husband, Ron, of Presque Isle; several brothers and sisters; 15 grandchildren, Michael and Jeff Ouellette, Jesse and Jeremy Haines, Nick and Melissa Rand, Jason and Patrick Wguyen, Jamie and Mathew Wood, Colleen Rand, Jacob and Katie Rand, Ashley Rand and Alexa Sullivan; eight great-grand-children, and several nieces and nephews. Alex was predeceased by a grandson, Mark Ouellette, Sept. 10, 2000. Friends may call 11 a.m. until times of services Saturday, Oct. 21, at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Services will be held 1 p.m. at the chapel of the funeral home, with the Rev. Anna Beach, pastor of the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
