MADAWASKA – Alfred E. LaBonty passed away unexpectedly April 8, 2006, while visiting with his children in Cape Elizabeth. He was born Oct. 4, 1925, in Montpelier, Vt. Alfred received his doctorate degree in law from the Portland Law School and his undergraduate degrees from Boston University and the University of Maine. He served in World War II and was a member of the 10th Mountain Division. He also served in the Korean War as a company commander and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. Alfred married Jacqueline Landry of Clair, N.B., Canada April 7, 1956. They just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Alfred worked as a district court judge in Madawaska, for seven years. He held his own law practice in Madawaska for approximately 45 years. Alfred loved the outdoors; he was an avid skier and swimmer. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and walking in the woods. Most importantly, he loved his family. He was very proud of his five sons and their families. He was predeceased by his mother, Anne Rynne, who lived to age 72; and his father, Alfred E. LaBonty Sr., who lived to be 100 years old. He is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline; their son, Allan his wife, Lisa and their two children, Andrea and Matthew of Scarborough; their son, Mark his wife, Vivian and Mark’s children Julie, Erin and Tommy of Encino, Calif.; their son, Jim his wife, Mary and their children James Jr., Melissa, and Christopher of Medina, Ohio; their son, Michael and his wife, Gail, of Scarborough; their son, Andrew, his wife, Tammy and their sons, Connor and Cody of Cape Elizabeth; his sister, Barbara Crosby of Natick, Mass.; and his brother, Ronald LaBonty Sr. of Augusta. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church, Cape Elizabeth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alfred LaBonty’s name to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main St., Topsham, ME 04086.
