HARMONY – Alfred G. Magoon, 82, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2007, at Redington Fairview General Hospital, Skowhegan. He was born Dec. 9, 1924, in Harmony, the son of Linwood G. Magoon and Audrey (West) Magoon. He attended and graduated from Harmony High School, Class of 1942. He married the former Ellen Byram April 10, 1948, in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada. Alfred was born, raised and lived on the Magoon family farm, which has been in the family since 1825. He spent most of his life farming and working in the woods. He was a lifetime member of the Harmony Volunteer Fire Department since the mid-1950s. He was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. Last fall, he sawed up most of the firewood for two households. In addition to his wife of 59 years, Ellen of Harmony, he is survived by two sons, Paul Magoon of Harmony and Keith Magoon and his wife, Lou Ann, of Harmony; one sister, Veneine Stadig and her husband, Norman, of Harmony; two grandchildren, Cassandra Byrd and her husband, Jeremy, of Bucksport and Joshua Magoon of Harmony; one great-grand-daughter, Ryleigh Byrd of Bucksport; several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 9, at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Harmony Baptist Church, Harmony. Internment will be held later in the spring at Libby Cemetery, Harmony.
