STOCKTON SPRINGS – Alice Dorothy (Merrithew) Tsetsilas died March 3, 2007, after a recent period of declining health. Alice was born April 2, 1924, in Stockton Springs, the oldest of five children of Clyde and Orillie (Lanphier) Merrithew. Alice graduated from Stockton Springs High School, Class of 1941, and after graduation she left Maine to live and work in Boston, where she met her future husband, George. They were married Oct. 17, 1948, and in 1950, they moved back to Maine and settled in Stockton, where they lived until the time of her death. She was a lifetime member of Bethany and Primrose Chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star, and an active member of the Hook & Eye Club of Stockton. She enjoyed baking, reading, watching the Red Sox, and was an excellent seamstress. Alice is survived by her husband of 58 years, George; her son, Stephen and his wife, Sue, of Prospect; her daughter, Georgene Coombs and her husband, Richard, of Northport; her granddaughter, Karen Coombs and her husband, Michael Calaway, of Houston; and her grandson, Kevin Coombs and his fiancee, Shannon Reny, of Belfast. She is also survived by her sister, Marion Merrithew of Arlington, Va.; and her brothers, Rodney and Edgar Merrithew and his wife, Delores, of Stockton; one nephew, Clyde Merrithew of Rockland; two nieces, Cynthia Seekins of Stockton, and Catherine Carroll of Searsport; and a special sister-in-law, Jennie Noviello of Jamaica Plain, Mass. She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Herbert Merrithew; and two sisters-in-law, Helena Merrithew and Grace Merrithew. Visiting hours for family and friends will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, at Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main St., Searsport. A date and time of the memorial service will be announced by the funeral home in Tuesday’s edition of the newspaper. Spring interment will be at Mount Prospect Cemetery.
