ORONO and ORLAND George Hill Buck, 87, formerly of Orland, died Feb. 27, 2007, at Dirigo Pines, Orono. A direct descendent of Col. Jonathan Buck, founder of Bucksport, George was born Aug. 31, 1919, in Lynn, Mass., the son of David C. and Rose M. (Bacon) Buck. George graduated from Bucksport High School and attended the University of Maine and Husson College. He served his country in the U.S. Army-Air Force during World War II. He and his wife, Anna, were involved with the Friends of Acadia and the Downeast Outing Club, and they were longtime supporters of the Bangor Symphony. George and Anna enjoyed hosting many international visitors as well as visiting foreign countries. He is survived by his wife, Anna (Komisaruk) Buck of Orono and Orland; three children, Andrea of Huntsville, Ala., Alison of Easthampton, Mass. and Jonathan of Austin, Texas; a sister, Margaret “Peg” Crosby of Manchester, Mass.; and grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for a later date. For those wishing to offer remembrances for George, the family suggests donations in his name be made to Friends of Acadia, 43 Cottage St., P.O.
