BUXTON – Alicia Lezak Brandow, 70, died Aug. 12, 2004, after a long illness with her husband and several of her children at her side. Alicia was born Oct. 23, 1933, in Cleveland, Ohio, a daughter of Andrew and Margaret Lezak. Gifted at an early age with an exceptional singing voice, she was educated by tutors in languages, art, dance, piano, and especially in voice. A favorite of the large Hungarian community of eastside Cleveland and well known as Lezak Ica, she sang for weddings, on radio, in dinner clubs and other Cleveland venues in the early 50’s. On Oct. 25, 1952, Alicia married her husband Robert H. Brandow. Having moved to Bangor with her family at age 35, she considered Maine her true home. For the past 12 years she made many friends as an antiques dealer specializing in vintage jewelry and hand-painted porcelain or pottery. Eleven years ago, upon her husband’s retirement, she moved to southern Maine to be closer to grandchildren and nearer to large out-of-state antique shows. Surviving her are her husband, Robert; six children, Eric H. of East Hampstead N.H., Carl C. of Eddington, Jeffrey E. and his wife, Anne, of North Yarmouth, Susan L., of Bangor, Dean A., of Morgan City, La., and Amy L. B. Jackson, and her husband, Philip of Buxton. She also loved, and was loved by three grandchildren; Robert W., Daniel C., and Timothy H. Brandow, all of North Yarmouth. A family-only memorial service will be held this weekend. Donations may be made in Alicia’s memory to any charity of your choice, or to the Patrons of the Arts Endowment Fund, University of Maine, Orono ME 04473.
