ALLAN M. BROWN

WINN – Allan Morris Brown-65, a quiet, gentle man of integrity, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, peacefully at his home, surrounded by friends and family. He was born Nov. 15, 1939, in Milton, Mass., youngest son of Max O. and Alpha (Crosby) Brown. He was a 1957 graduate of Randolph High School and received a degree in mechanical engineering from Northeastern University in 1962. He married the love of his life, Donna Lee Reed on July 22, 1961. Following a tour of duty with the 587th Army Engineer Co. in Hanau, Germany, they moved to East Millinocket, where Allan worked for Great Northern Paper Company. They moved in 1976, to an old farmhouse in Winn to pursue the idea of becoming a self-employed engineering consultant and a part- time farmer. In later years, he and Donna also established Silver Fox Stamps, a business that manufactured and marketed artistic rubber stamps. Allan was a fine craftsman who enjoyed restoring antique vehicles of all sorts. He also became very interested in Maine license plates and was well known among fellow collectors for his talents in restoring antique porcelain plates. He was a member of ALPCA for many years, and had gathered detailed historical information on the production of Maine plates to help others interested in plate collecting. Active in his community, Allan was a selectman for the town of Winn for nine years, retiring in August 2004, due to failing health. He was also a member and two-term president of the Penobscot Valley Hospital board of directors. Allan served as co-pastor of the Winn Home Fellowship Church for more than 25 years. He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Donna of Winn; a daughter, Deborah Capeci and her husband, Jonathan, of Spring City, Pa.; daughter, Sandra Thurlow and her husband, Todd, of East Winn; and son, Steven Brown and his wife, Aleyne, of Lincoln; and a special gift from God, Renee Folnsbee of Lincoln. He also leaves behind a legacy of 12 grandchildren, Jonathan, Rachael, Steven and Sandra Capeci, Melissa, Kimberly, Josiah and Nathanael Thurlow, Abigail, Elijah, Rebekah, and Isabel Brown. He is also survived by two brothers, David Brown of Winston-Salem, N.C., and D. Crosby Brown and his wife, Margret, of Lamoine, several nieces and nephews; and his uncle, Hal Crosby and wife, Kay, of Fairfield. Visiting hours will be held, from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, at Clay Funeral Home in Lincoln. The memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov.24, also at Clay Funeral Home, with his son, Pastor Steve Brown, officiating. Burial will follow at Potters Brook Cemetery in East Winn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Allan’s memory to the Community Health and Counseling Hospice of Lincoln, Katahdin Area Support Group of Millinocket, or Lincoln Christian Fellowship Church.
