CARIBOU – Alma Holmes, 92, died Nov. 15, 2004, at Caribou. She was born, July 15, 1912, in Caribou, the daughter of Henry and Delina (Langley) Cote. Mrs. Holmes was employed as a cook for the Holy Rosary School as well as the Caribou School Dept. for many years. She was a lifelong member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church where she was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne. She married Bernie Holmes Sept. 1, 1945. Alma was the heart of her family, and they were her greatest joy in life. Her love for people and her gift for making them laugh will be sadly missed. Her friends at Reno’s and McDonald’s will always remember her as a very special lady. Alma was affectionately known as “Gram” to everyone who knew her. Surviving in addition to her husband, Bernie, of Caribou are two daughters and sons-in- law, Dolores and Sterling Richards, and Gloria and Willis Sutherland, all of Caribou; one brother, Arthur Cote of Oregon; three sisters, Lorraine Cote of Fort Kent, Gertie Corriveau of Lewiston and Evelyn Duthie of Bangor; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Holmes was predeceased by her first husband Leo Belanger in 1943; her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Wallace Michaud; a special twin sister, Dora Soucy; six sisters, Rose Dumais, Yvonne Damboise, Dinah Belanger, Albertine Carney, Jeannette Bell and Irene Dumond; six brothers, Soloman, Albert, Celestine, Leon, Sylvio, and Cyrias Cote. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church with the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie, officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mrs. Holmes may do so through the Maine Veterans’ Home Hospice Care Memorial Fund, or the charity of one’s choice.
