ISLAND FALLS – Alma M. Stairs, 82, passed away into internal bliss Aug. 19, 2006, at Houlton Regional Hospital. She was born Feb. 24, 1924, in Island Falls, the daughter of Frank A. and Nellie M. Dickinson. She graduated from Island Falls High School, Class of 1942. She married Ronald T. Stairs May 1946 and they had four children. She was head cook for several years in the Island Falls school system and was well known for her homemade rolls, sloppy joes’ and other favorite recipes. Her hobbies included cooking, crocheting, flowers, crafts, bird watching, reading and family visits. She was loving and caring as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grand-mother, sister, aunt and cousin and a wonderful friend to all who knew her. Her home was always open and she had the personality that made everyone feel welcome. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a member of Island Falls Baptist Church. She is survived by her three children, Ronda and her husband, Kenny Slauenwhite, Dean Stairs of Island Falls, Paul and his wife, Rosie, of Muskogee, Okla.; her sister, Beverly and her husband, Wilson Long, of Lansdale, Penn.; brothers, John and Leo Dickinson of Patten; five grandchildren, Kent, Melanie and Matthew Slauenwhite, Shawna Maker and Richard Stairs and his wife, Amy; three great-grandchildren, Brooke and River Stairs and Cole Maker; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; son, Ronald Jr.; husband, Ronald; sisters, Jennie Lancaster, Mary Hillman and Lela Stairs; and brothers, Frank Jr., Robert, Harry and David Dickinson. Friends may call 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Alma M. Stairs will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Peter Main officiating. Memories of her life will be welcome at the service.
